Types of Bridges

There are four popular types of bridges in the world.

1. Beam Bridge

Popular form of bridge type and very common in everywhere. The structure is basically formed by constructing slabs which are supported on beams.  These bridges leads to innovative applications of different novel materials.

Beam bridges are not good if ship traffic is required below the bridge as these type of bridges need frequent vertical pier supports to carry the load.

2. Arch Bridge

Another popular form of bridge construction which enables ship traffic below the bridge. However, the allowable span is constraint for these type of bridges.

3. Suspension bridge

A fomous bridge type which can be used to construct bridges with longer spans. The only disadvantage is that this type of bridges are quiet expensive to other alternatives.

4. Cable stayed bridge

These bridges has been there always as an alternative to suspension bridges when it comes to cost and length. Cable stayed bridges are ideal for wider span and longer bridge constructions.
